Hello EABA Families,
Exciting news for Baseball with the last announcement from the Provincial Government,
We are able to return to the diamonds!!!
We are working hard to get everything organized and get our kids back on the fields. There are many details to work through to ensure it is safe for everyone but we are just about there.
EABA will be providing a Return to Train program starting with 11U – 18U age groups. Registration will take place June 22-26th only. We will not have any late registrations. We apologize for the short turnaround, but we would like to start the program on June 29th. We will begin with tryouts to make up teams, they will run from June 29th – July 4th. Rosters will be set for July 5th.
We are planning to run the Return to Train program for 8 weeks (July 6-Aug 30th) with the possibility of games if the Covid situation improves further and we have the approval from our governing Body Baseball Alberta.
We also plan to run a Fall Ball program through the month of September for any members wanting to continue to play Baseball. Plans are in the works to provide Summer day camps in August for our younger players as long as restrictions allow us to do so. Please stay tuned for more information!
Baseball will look quite different this year as we adjust to all the Covid regulations, but our main priority is to get the kids out on the fields in a safe manner by minimizing shared equipment and following all Physical distancing measures set out by AHS and Baseball Alberta. Athletes will be instructed to sanitize their hands frequently and throughout these practices. Equipment will be assigned to specific groups, sanitized before and after each use and kept with those specific groups only.
All Players, coaches and volunteers will have to sign a waiver and provide information for our daily assessments. Please know we are taking this very seriously to keep everyone as safe as possible, please stay home if you show any symptoms.
If you are interested in helping out with this program please let our EABA President know by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you for your patience and we will see you on the fields very soon!

Hello EABA Families,
On May 8th Baseball Alberta made the difficult decision to cancel all in – person sanctioned events until September 1, 2020. Please visit the Baseball Alberta website to view the full announcement.
We understand that this is very disappointing news for everyone, but with the current Provincial Health restrictions in place, our organization has no choice but to follow AHS and Baseball Alberta Guidelines and cancel the 2020 regular baseball season.
EABA will begin the refund process to all our members who have already paid their 2020 registration fees starting on May 15th. The refunds will be returned in the same way they were paid so please watch your statements or mail in the upcoming week or two. Please note that there will be a website or admin fee deducted from your refund (depending on method of payment), as these are the fees charged to the organization to process the transaction.
Despite the cancellation, we feel strongly that players should have the opportunity to participate in baseball activities and continue with their personal skill development. In the absence of a regular summer baseball season, the organization is exploring alternate baseball programming options that will allow players to stay engaged in baseball activities through self-directed and/or virtual training programs that can be completed in accordance with provincial physical distancing protocols. The details of those programs are in progress and will be announced in the coming weeks.
Please take care, stay safe and feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Hello EABA Families,
We hope everyone is doing well & staying safe!
We just wanted to inform you all that the City of Edmonton announced on April 15 that all Recreation Facilities including sports fields will remain closed until May 31, 2020. The update from Baseball Alberta on April 15 is:
The Baseball Alberta Board of Directors has made the decision to extend the suspension of ALL sanctioned Baseball Alberta in-person events until June 1, 2020. The Board will continue to meet on a regular basis to re-evaluate the situation as information becomes available and will provide further updates following these meetings.
Baseball Alberta is fully behind associations doing something/modified seasons whatever that looks like and makes sense for that association. It seems that associations in the greater Edmonton area are all hoping to run some type of season for their “A”(house) league & AA players – we may be able to work together with these associations if wanted/needed.
For now, we are all crossing our fingers and hoping we can hit the field sooner rather than later. The EABA board will continue to plan for the season so we can hit the ground running once it is safe to do so.
Unfortunately, this is still a “wait & see” situation. We are not ready at this time to cancel our ball season. Once the COVID-19 crisis has passed, it will be very important that our children are able to get their lives back to normal and play sports. We will keep everyone updated as new information becomes available.
EABA has sent out a survey via email. Please help us by answering the questions and submitting it. This will help in some planning for the season. We appreciate your feedback!
Be sure to check your junk folder if you have not received the survey.
For all baseball inquiries, please contact Jennifer Hagen at or Ryan Kineshanko at For Registration inquiries, please contact Abbey Denny at
Stay safe, Stay health. Hope to see you at a ballpark soon!

Edmonton Amateur Baseball Association

Based on the current COVID-19 pandemic, EABA is hoping to commence the 2020 baseball season as of June 1st, 2020. We are following government protocol (for social distancing) and the direction of Baseball Alberta with their decision to extend the suspension of ALL sanctioned in-person events until that date.
In the near future we will be sending a short survey concerning the upcoming baseball season. Please keep an eye out and respond as quickly as possible in order for our Board of Directors to make the best decision for our players.
EABA will have an updated statement in mid-May announcing how the season will unfold in these unpredictable times.
Although we’re not allowed to play together as a team try your best to stay active, have fun, and get ready to play!

Due to the recent developments regarding COVID-19 the Edmonton Amateur Baseball Association is adhering to the guidelines the set out by Baseball Alberta and is suspending all activities until at least April 30th. It is understandable that with the recent developments there will be additional questions and concerns. We will strive to provide updates relevant to EABA baseball programs as they come available.
EABA will continue to follow the recommendations set out by Baseball Alberta and those set out by the Chief Medical Officer and Alberta Health Services as we work to do our part in these uncertain times. Our priorities will always be the safety of our athletes and our community. The Edmonton Amateur Baseball Association and all of its board members appreciate your patience and understanding during these uncertain times as everyone does their part to stay safe.
March 14, 2020
With all the Health concerns of Covid-19, EABA will be supporting Baseball Alberta’s recommendation to suspend all activities as of today, until April 6th.
EABA will provide an updated schedule for try outs when it becomes available.
Please keep an eye out on our website and Social media for an update.
March 12, 2020
In the last 24 hours there have been a lot of decisions made with regards to the operation of sports leagues across the country. EABA and its Board of Directors is taking this very seriously, We will provide any updates on the status of our program and whether or not tryouts and / or practices will continue as per the schedule.
At this point we are closely watching what is going on in Alberta and taking direction from the governing bodies of Baseball Canada and Baseball Alberta, along with Alberta Health.
Alberta Health Services still assesses the risk as low
- 19 Reported cases in Alberta as of March 12 – 11:00 AM
- Schools remain open in Edmonton area:
- EABA activities fall outside of Public Health Measures released today:
- Effective immediately, the Alberta government is asking all large gatherings or international events in the province to be cancelled and advising Albertans against travel outside of the country.
New public health restrictions Alberta is asking organizers to cancel any events that have more than 250 attendees. This includes large sporting events, conferences and community events. It does not extend to places of worship, grocery stores, airports or shopping centres.Any event that has more than 50 attendees and expects to have international participants, or involves critical infrastructure staff, seniors, or other high-risk populations should also be cancelled.
- EABA events are not classified as ‘Mass Gatherings’, less than 250 people
- Baseball Canada and Baseball Alberta have not directed EABA to shut down events
Based on this information:
- At this point tryouts are permitted
- EABA strongly suggests that extra activities other than tryouts/practices be eliminated
Everyone is reminded about the importance of practicing proper hygiene to help reduce the risk of infection or spreading infection to others. EABA recommends the following Alberta Health guidance:
- Monitor travel restrictions on the Government of Canada Travel Advisory website, which can be found at https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories
As circumstances evolve or change, EABA will issue new Alerts based on Alberta Health guidance. Please note changes are happening at a rapid pace, if we receive different direction from Alberta Health Services or the governing bodies of Baseball Alberta and Baseball Canada we will adjust accordingly.

NEZ & EABA MOU ANNOUNCEMENT
In 2019, Northeast Zone Baseball (NEZ) and Edmonton Amateur Baseball Association (EABA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that effectively provided a AAA pathway for all players across east Edmonton. NEZ offers rep baseball in A, AA and AAA under the Padres brand while EABA offers rep baseball in A and AA under the Angels brand – each organization also operates an independent house league program. Players wishing to tryout for AAA within the NEZ & EABA catchment areas are to tryout with the Edmonton Padres.
This year, the MOU will be enhanced to pool players at the AA level for the 15U and 18U ages. Those players demonstrating abilities just under the AAA level will have an opportunity to develop within a AA+ roster with the intention of competing at a higher tier while players still developing their skills or those with less experience will have the opportunity to play AA baseball with a purely developmental focus. 13U AAA will continue to run as normal while 13U AA and 11U AA programs will remain under the brands of Padres and Angels without player pooling. TeamGenius, an app-based player evaluation and tracking tool, will be implemented across NEZ & EABA to monitor, provide feedback and track overall development of all players within the rep programs throughout each season and offseason as well as year-over-year.
“The idea is to provide players with a level of programming, development and competition that best matches skill, commitment and expectations of the players and families across east Edmonton at 15U and 18U,” stated Technical Director John Sutherland. “Whether that’s AAA, aspiring AAA at the AA+ level or development-first focus at AA, this refined strategy across the player pool at these age groups will create pathways for player progression.”
In 2020, 18U AA+ will be Angels branded and 18U AA will be Padres branded. At 15U, AA+ will be Padres branded and AA will be Angels branded. Coaches for each team will be vetted using a coaching qualifications rubric created by the Edmonton Padres Task Force Team responsible for overseeing strategic direction of Edmonton Padres rep programs. NEZ and EABA will be represented within the coach selection committee and ultimately within the coaching staffs. The Technical Director will support all teams with tryout and evaluation processes, roster selection, pre-season camps and practices as well as in-season rotations.
“We’re excited to strengthen our partnership and to see more players from southeast Edmonton progress through their minor baseball experiences with options to play from house league to the highest levels,” said Jen Hagen, President of EABA.
Players interested in trying out for AAA should attend Padres tryouts running March 6-14 (AAA rosters set Sunday, March 15). AA players are also encouraged to attend the AAA tryouts. Those who don’t make a AAA roster, and those interested in AA will have AA+/AA tryouts beginning on March 16. Rosters for AA+ and AA teams will be set by early April. Players living in NEZ catchment (north of the river to city limits and St. Albert Trail east to city limits) must first register with NEZ while players living in EABA catchment (south of the river to city limits and Calgary Trail east to city limits) must first register with EABA before tryouts. Tryout dates and details are available below or at www.edmontonpadres.ca and www.eabaseball.ca.
“We believe that the Edmonton Padres offer the most comprehensive baseball program within the region and this new AA+ strategy strengthens our relationship with EABA, provides players with a more clear developmental path toward their baseball goals and helps us to more effectively distribute coaching talent across the east Edmonton region to ensure that all players have the experience best suited for their development each year,” said Dave Ball, Baseball Director for NEZ Sports Council.
